Correspondence and related papers of some leading West Indian writers and publishers dating from the early 1960s to 2000. A large part of the collection relates to Edward Kamau Brathwaite, a leading Caribbean poet and historian who received a doctorate from the University of Sussex in 1968. The files include some of Brathwaite's personal papers, correspondence between Braithwaite and Walmsley and works by Brathwaite (radio talks, essays and manuscripts). Other correspondents who feature in the collection are: Hazel Campbell, Jan Carew, Frank Collymore, John Figueroa, Evan Jones, John Robert Lee, V.S. Naipaul, V.S. Reid, Samuel Selvon, Arthur Seymour, Anson Gonzales, Ian McDonald, Henry Swanzy, Philip Nanton, John Wickham, Wilson Harris, Mervyn Morris.
